Wow … well I think going to Oktoberfest was the greatest thing I could have ever done. I met some of the coolest people, had some of the best beer, and partied like it was 1329! It was absolutely the most amazing time.

First off, getting there wasn’t bad. We decided to take the trains. We booked really late so we had to go out of the way a bit, out to Geneva, Zürich, through Austria into Germany and into Munich. The hostel couldn’t be any closer to the train station and the festival. No Metro, No Taxis, all you need is your self and some cash. I highly recommend Jaeger’s Hostel, not only is it super close to everything, you get a free shot of Jaeger!

The actual festival was pretty wild. Think state fair meets the anti-alcohol anonymous club. The sole purpose of everyone there is to drink and enjoy the beer. The next purpose is to sing to David Hasselhoff and German folk music. The first thing you need to do when you get to the festival is get into a tent ( which is actually a huge decorated warehouse like building ) and get one of your friends seated. You can’t buy beer unless you are seated. But your 1 friend can buy a ton of beer. Also either get some lederhosen or wear expendable clothes. You will spill beer, and you will be spilled on. Oh and another tip, your not supposed to take the mugs or steins out of the warehouse. Other then that, drink, have a good time and try not to over do it … pace yourself.

We started off at 10am trying to get a good spot at the tents. 10am is too late. You have to be there early to get in other wise your going to wait in a long queue to get in, and even longer to get a table. After we go in, it took us a bit to figure out how to get seated, but we got someone down and started the rounds. After awhile people filtered through and left so we eventually all got seated. Also note, its normal to stand on your bench and sing to the live music. We did notice that later on in the evening they played a ton of American music like, AC/DC, Skinner etc. Over the course of out 18 hour day we consumed about a liter of beer an hour. If you don’t know me, I’m a big guy with a bit of tolerance to beer. After my first liter I wasn’t really feeling anything, but during the second, it starts to hit you. Ounce for Ounce I think this beer was stronger. Not to mention it tasted amazing. If I learned something this trip it’s that the Germans know how to make beer and put on a awesome party.

Well I gotta run
